Don’t like indie songs? Listen to some, and you might be surprised at what you find. Here are some tips for you to follow on your way to appreciating the indie music scene.
Ø      If you have a portable music player, bring it along to somewhere that you haven’t been before. A different surrounding usually paves the way for a different set of reactions towards a particular song.
Ø      Listen to the lyrics of the music. It will help you appreciate the song more if you know what it’s trying to say.
Ø      Lose yourself in the music. Soak up its beat, its tempo, its lyrics and the message it wants you to hear.

An indie site can be visited by many if one is interested with communicating with people who have the same interest. FanBridge.com was founded in 2006 by three music-loving business majors that wanted to bring new ease and ability to bands’ communication efforts with their fans. With advanced email list and mobile messaging tools, FanBridge is designed to save time and effort while improving the return on investment of communicating with your fans (as well as industry contacts). Indie-Music.com recently spoke with Co-Founder Spencer Richardson to find out more about the Company and how you can use it to advance your career.

I never thought that indie music is really popular worldwide. When I searched through the net using the keyword ‘indie music,’ that was when I found out that indeed there are many indie or independent artists all over the world. And just like any other type of music, indie music is also classified according to different categories such as pop, gospel, jazz and others. Together with my searching, I also found out different sites that promote indie music. Some of the sites are:
• Indie Axe
• Web Ring
• Indie Music
• Make Use Of

I was not aware that indie music has become popular even then. And I was surprised when I found out that there are actually thousands or hundreds of sites catering indie artists. These sites are actually home to hundred of artists and are making their music available online. These help artists market their songs and make their names known not only locally but worldwide as well. Just like what I’ve read from an article, the best way to market your music is through the net because many people are visiting the net everyday. Not all users may get to hear your songs but there will surely be at least ten listeners out of a million.

Most bands have their roots from playing inside their house’s garages, for just a few friends or so. Indie bands, usually, graduate from this venue to the world stage not because they were snapped up by record companies, but because they had real talent and people recognized it as worthy of the attention and the praise. So to indie artists out there who are still waiting for their turn in the spotlight, don’t despair. Your time will come. Just continue to live for your music and to hone your skills, and one day, who knows, you just might be traveling the glove to the delight of fans lining up just to see you play.

An indie band should be memorable, or else it should be ready to face death; figuratively that is. If a band is forgettable, it faces adverse challenges which may hinder its success. An audience should be able to register your signature look, sound and feel, and also, recognize you even when they don’t see you. They should be able to hold on to something that is distinctly speaks of your band. Let your signature seep through everything that could be associated with your band: your looks, your clothes, your lyrics. Let your audience know you well, and they will be an indispensable help to your road to indie stardom.

Create, create, create! Indie bands must bear this in mind in order to produce genuine indie music. Do not try to please everyone, make what you want, sing what you want, write the lyrics that you want. It’s not about catering to the whims of everybody with an ear to spare, it’s about presenting who your band is to the world and not sacrificing that for the price of conformity. Indie bands like Fugazi and Ramones didn’t get where they are by following the crowd; they did it by putting their craft above all. Care more for your music and less for the money and the fame; pretty soon, if you really have a band that can rock everyone’s brains out, then all the perks of being a recognized indie band will naturally follow.

As I was talking about social networking, I realized that indeed, every artist who wants to go independent has surely his own way of selling his music. This is through the social networking. I was able to read an article regarding this. These are the important things to consider:
- Know your goals
- Focus on the social networking website you want to dominate
- Identify the people you want to belong in your network
After accomplishing the mentioned three points, you must make sure to update your site. Be responsible and try to treat this seriously because you just don’t know when opportunity knocks.

Almost all ranges of ages are already into internet. A large percent of the population I think knows about Friendster, Multiply, Facebook, Youtube and other networking sites. Through this kind of networking, your song can be grabbed or downloaded by people who had interest with your song. So, if I were you, make your songs be heard by your listeners around the globe! Make an impact. Try to be unique so as to be noticed by those active surfers. No one can tell, maybe you can be featured in the television already.
This is a very great way of starting your career. Indeed many famous artists nowadays just started from this kind of strategy. Â
