Sadness is a fact of life. It’s most often romanticized and exaggerated (Emo, anyone?) but in Beware by Bonnie “Prince” Billy, it is simply that, a hard fact of life. It’s not wallowing or self-pitying, Billy’s sadness is a ditch one crashes into and climbs out of, a snag that’s forgotten in the long run, a detour one goes around of. The feeling is almost of numbness, of a sort of apathy towards the situation, and the simple moving forward which is inertly a part of every human being.
Billy’s songs are about love – or the lack of it – but each one is unique, beautifully written and rendered into song. Songs like “You Don’t Love Me”, “Beware Your Only Friend”, and “I Won’t Ask Again” talk of relationships, but not in the way we usually know sad songs. Its straightforward, no nonsense un-melodramatic music.

Debut in 2008 with a collection of combined chipper electronic sounds adding to it a smirk of an aged Lolita she combines suggestive lyrics with the innocence of delivery making for a sweet feminine style that is solely Yelle. Peppering her lyrics with synth infuses a sort of trans like state that gets anyone into the mood for slaughter of her mother tongue, the English language. Her overall style the embodiment of her songs are a complete mix of the mundane and the exotic, resulting in a show that is truly to remember.
She hits hard with words of suggestion yet makes it all sound trivial that even one can relate to the overall experience. She evokes dance with her songs yet hits with frequent infusion of synthesized sounds creating a sort of techno-pop mix that sends the hips and feet into twirling rhythm, dancing your way to the dance floor as if drawn in by the music which you cannot control. She is seen as a breath of fresh air in the all so familiar world of dance and of course the indie music scene where she has made her mark, how long it’ll stay there is anyone’s guess for it is such in the world of music and the forever evolving styles of indie.

Unique doesn’t even get close to describing the character that is Michael Forrest who releases “Broken Into Tumbolia”, an album like no other for sure. His genius is the combination of music in all shapes and sizes that in the end all comes up into one nice piece. From Drum-nBase, Hip-Hop and Free Jazz, he combines them into an unusual style that is truly unique but unexpectedly funky and very good. Not content with music as it is, he combines his talent with the different styles and skill at several instruments combined with technological wonders and what do you get, some of the best sounding music around. He seems to evoke the music gods to make his music sound good and blend as if they were meant to be and people just kove it.

David Michael had dreamed of touring, bus and the red carpet at Grammy nights. All seemed to be wishful thinking. But Michael never let go of those dreams and kept it to inspire to achieve those hopes one day. Amdist all the trials he went through as a young child and all his life, he took the dream with him. He was moved to a foster care system, remembering a little about his parents. He stayed there until he was nine years of age. He recalls fondly the happiest day of his life when he and his younger brother were adopted by a family, finally a family they could call their own. He continues to acknowledge the hand of God in saving him from the darkest and most painful times of his young life. On his fifth grade, his music teacher was initially the one who planted the seeds of hope in David’s singing potential. Much much later he would realize that he comes from a rich musical history for both father and mother.
